Yesterday was a Sunday well spent in a cozy workshop with India Flint at the Poet’s Ode store in Hahndorf. I had been itching to try something new and you can say that eco dyeing, or natural dyeing, is an eye-opener. India is a busy world-traveller, passing on her knowledge and working her magic all over the globe, so I consider myself very fortunate to have scored a seat right in Adelaide Hills. People have travelled interstate to attend this workshop!
In this one-day workshop we each had silky merino fabric to make a dress or garment out of. Silky merino is so soft and gorgeous in its natural ivory state. Every piece of garment had been hand-stitched by ourselves, almost meditatively. So many variations and different outfit personalities were created.
I worked against time to bundle my incomplete dress to get right into the dark iron bath. It needed to cook for almost 1 hour… Different eucalyptus leaves and plant parts were going to leave a unique colour and print.
The suspense could kill.
Not yet! We each had to take our hot bundles home to let the heat work its magic overnight…
